Mounir Chaïbi’s story is as full as his studio, all made of twists, turns and trips. His first journey at the age of seven, separated him from his native country, Tunisia, to drop him in the French capital. He lived outside or inside the “periph”(Paris ring road), at different times, but he very soon settled into the field of art forever mingled with education...
Very early on, he worked with young adolescents in trouble, teaching them graphic art, drawing and “bombage” (spray painting). In 1980 he took them to Tuscany... a seminal trip. The mayor of Rosignano Marittimo became his friend for life and Italy his third homeland.
For 27 years he has travelled there regularly, still dazzled today by his experience in 1981, when he attended the realization of nine monumental sculptures in the gardens of Pasquini Castle. It was his turn to carve Carrara: he joined other artists for performances, frequented studios where he trained and others where he taught, here and there.
In the ‘90s, after a switch to industrial design, he definitively turned to sculpture. Guillermo, “the Argentine”, introduced him to resin, André from Allier (French county) to the art of drapery on wood. As for casting, he discovered the Amaury foundry, near Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris, a place where they have worked using traditional methods for three generations.
